How these mini PCs compare
Dell OptiPlex Micro Intel i5 Desktop
The Dell OptiPlex 3050 Micro uses an i5-7500T processor, which is a generation newer than the HP ProDesk’s i5-6500. This provides slightly better efficiency for basic office tasks. It retains the same 8GB RAM and includes Windows 11 Pro, matching the original’s software environment. The dimensions are nearly identical, with a width of 7 inches and a height of 1.3 inches, making it equally space-saving. You should choose this if you want a budget-friendly option with a slightly more modern chip generation while keeping the same compact form factor and business-oriented operating system.
HP EliteDesk Mini Core i5 PC
The HP EliteDesk 800 G3 Mini shares the same i5-6500T processor family as the original but features a lower thermal design power, which can result in quieter operation. It offers 512GB of SSD storage, double the capacity of the 256GB drive in the ProDesk. The physical size is similar, measuring 7.2 inches in length and 1.3 inches in height. It also runs Windows 11 Pro. Pick this model if you need more storage space for files and applications without increasing the footprint. The trade-off is the slightly slower T-series processor, which is ideal for steady, low-heat office work rather than intensive bursts.
HP EliteDesk Mini Core i5 PC
This HP EliteDesk 800 G4 Mini steps up to an i5-8500T hexa-core processor, providing significantly more processing power than the quad-core i5-6500 in the original. It includes 16GB of RAM, which is double the memory available in the ProDesk, allowing for heavier multitasking. Storage remains at 256GB SSD, and it runs standard Windows 11. The chassis is very compact at 7 by 7 inches with a height of 1.25 inches. Choose this if your workloads require stronger multi-threaded performance and more memory, accepting the same storage limit for a substantial boost in computational speed.
Lenovo ThinkCentre Core i5 Mini PC
The Lenovo ThinkCentre M720Q is a larger desktop unit compared to the mini form factors of the original HP ProDesk. It measures 13.5 inches in width and 19 inches in length, offering more internal space for potential upgrades. It includes an Intel Core i5 processor and 8GB of RAM with Windows 11 Pro. While it shares the same core performance tier, the larger size allows for better airflow and potentially quieter operation. Select this if you prioritize a quieter environment and have desk space for a larger chassis, rather than needing the ultra-compact, wall-mountable design of the ProDesk Mini.
Dell OptiPlex Micro Intel i5 PC
The Dell OptiPlex 3070 Micro features an i5-9500 processor, which is two generations newer than the original’s i5-6500. This offers improved efficiency and performance for everyday tasks. It includes 8GB of RAM and runs Windows 11 Pro, matching the original’s memory and software. The dimensions are slightly larger in width and length compared to the ProDesk, measuring 13.3 inches by 12.1 inches, but it maintains a low profile at 4 inches in height. Opt for this if you want a more modern processor generation and do not mind a slightly larger footprint than the ultra-compact ProDesk Mini.
Dell OptiPlex Micro PC 10th Gen i5
The Dell OptiPlex 3080 Micro uses a 10th generation i5-10500T processor, providing a significant leap in performance over the original’s 6th generation chip. It includes 8GB of RAM and 256GB of SSD storage, matching the ProDesk’s memory and storage capacities. It runs Windows 11 Pro, ensuring compatibility with modern business software. The chassis is compact at 7 by 7 inches with a height of 1.4 inches, similar to the original. Choose this if you need faster processing speeds for demanding applications while keeping the same storage and memory levels in a similarly sized package.
