How these alternatives compare
Lenovo ThinkCentre Tiny Intel i5 Desktop
The Lenovo ThinkCentre M900 Tiny matches the Dell OptiPlex with an Intel Core i5, 16GB RAM, and Windows 11 Pro. It offers remote vPro management, which benefits IT teams needing centralized control. The chassis is slightly thinner at 1.3 inches compared to the Dell’s 1.4 inches, saving vertical space. You lose the Dell’s explicit NVMe speed claims, but the compact footprint suits tight workstations. Choose this if your office requires remote hardware management rather than raw storage throughput.
HP EliteDesk Mini Core i5 16GB
The HP EliteDesk 800 G3 Mini provides dual 4K DisplayPort outputs, similar to the Dell’s display capabilities. It includes 16GB DDR4 RAM and a 256GB SSD for comparable multitasking performance. The chassis is larger, measuring 17 inches wide, which takes more desk surface area than the Dell’s 7-inch footprint. It runs Windows 11 Pro for business features. Pick this model if you prioritize dual 4K connectivity over minimal desk space, or if your setup already accommodates a wider base unit.
HP EliteDesk Mini Core i5 PC
This HP EliteDesk 800G4 Mini stands out with a hexa-core i5 processor, offering more cores than the Dell’s quad-core i5-6500T. It retains 16GB RAM and runs Windows 11 Pro. The chassis is exceptionally thin at 1.25 inches, thinner than the Dell’s 1.4 inches. It weighs less at 2.93 pounds. You gain processing power for heavier multitasking but may sacrifice the Dell’s specific NVMe SSD speed ratings. Select this if your workflow benefits from extra cores for virtualization or heavy applications.
HP EliteDesk Desktop Mini i5 16GB RAM
The HP EliteDesk Mini with 240GB SSD offers slightly less storage capacity than the Dell’s 256GB NVMe drive. It features an Intel Core i5 and 16GB RAM for similar multitasking. The chassis is 7.2 inches wide, nearly identical to the Dell’s 7.1-inch width. It runs Windows 11 Pro for business use. The main difference is the storage size and potentially slower SSD speeds compared to the Dell’s NVMe specification. Choose this if you find a better value and do not need the extra 16GB of storage.
Dell OptiPlex Micro Core i5 PC
The Dell OptiPlex 7070 Micro shares the same brand heritage and runs Windows 11 Pro with 16GB RAM. It uses a similar 7-inch chassis but is slightly taller at 1.5 inches compared to the 7040’s 1.4 inches. It weighs more at 6 pounds versus the 7040’s 4.1 pounds. The 7070 model generally features newer generation components, though specific CPU details are not listed here. Pick this if you want a newer Dell chassis with similar form factors and enterprise reliability, accepting the slight weight increase.
HP EliteDesk Mini PC Core i5 16GB
The HP EliteDesk 800 G5 Mini introduces Wi-Fi 6 support, a significant upgrade over the Dell OptiPlex’s standard Wi-Fi. It maintains 16GB RAM and a 256GB SSD. The chassis is much smaller, measuring 3.94 inches square, significantly reducing desk footprint compared to the Dell’s 7-inch base. It weighs only 2.2 pounds. You gain modern wireless speeds and a compact design but may need to verify the specific CPU generation for performance parity. Choose this if wireless speed and minimal space are your top priorities.
